The New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and we hope that after visiting us on the www you will be better informed and educated about the exciting profession of Turf Management in New Zealand and how the New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association can assist your course and staff development.
The New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association (NZGCSA) has one main goal. That is to see that golf courses in New Zealand are presented to the highest possible standards, with the resources available to them. We believe that to do this we must have a strong National Association with a wide membership base so that our members are adequately represented in the various areas of education, communication and professionalism.
Our Association is currently very active with around 300 members networking nationally. We provide our members with a wide range of services that include bi-monthly newsletters, a permanent section in the New Zealand Turf Management Journal, an annual turf diary and a wall chart with every club in New Zealand listed. The internet has also opened up a whole new world of communication which our members have not been slow in grasping. We now have our own website to keep our members thirst for knowledge quenched. All of the above communication avenues are frequently used by our members but we also perform other tasks that keep our members represented and our executive very busy. The President of our Association sits on the board of the Sports Turf Institute and the board of the Sports Turf Industry Training Organisation and we currently have two representatives (chairman & secretary) on the Governance Committee of the 2001 Sports Turf Convention. The three groups above have enormous respect (and say) in the turf industry and we are there to ensure the standards expected by our members are maintained.
Two years ago we negotiated a contract with the Sports Turf Training Organisation to moderate all of the trainees in the turf industry. Again this ensures that the training received in our industry is of the highest possible standards as trainees are the future Turf Managers of not only golf clubs but all turf facilities throughout New Zealand. We also formulate and judge two national awards each year. The Trainee of the Year Award and the Fellowship Award both have overseas trips associated with them and are keenly contested.
As can be seen from the extensive list of activities above the NZGCSA is well represented in many circles. We know there are already well trained and competent Turf Managers running courses throughout New Zealand. We know that New Zealand trained Turf Managers are very highly regarded overseas and we also know that the training and standard of our trainees is second to none. The NZGCSA bring all of this talent together in the form of membership and take it to a new level of excellence.
